ART UNION WINNER
Grader Driver At Riversdale
(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, May 10. A Riversdale grader driver, Mr L. D. Lamb, today won the £5OOO 'top prize in the "Lucky Dip” Art Union, drawn in Wellington. Mr Lamb, who is in his mid-30's, is married with three young children. First inkling of the family's win was given when a reporter telephoned Mrs Lamb and asked if her husband held the winning ticket. “I’m hot all over. I’ll ring you back,” said Mrs Lamb. “It takes a bit of believing, It hasn't sunk in yet,” said Mr Lamb by telephone later. He said there was no doubt the money would be used for the family to “move north to a warmer climate and build a home.” Mr K. A. Selwyn, a hairdresser and confectioner, said tonight it was the first big prize-winning ticket he had sold in about five years and a half he had been handling art union tickets. The big prize has now come to Southland six times in the last 15 months.
