JOHNSON’S TOUR
Importance Of Mission
IN Z.P.A -Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, May 9. The United States VicePresident (Mr Johnson) will leave for Hawaii today on the first leg of a goodwill tour of South-east Asia. The trip is Mr Johnson’s second overseas mission for President Kennedy, but its importance overshadows his recent visit to the new African Republic of Senegal. Geneva and Paris, United Press International said. Mr Johnson, accompanied by his wife, will leave Hawaii tomorrow for Saigon, South Vietnam. Manila, the Philippines. Taipeh, Formosa. Hong Kong, Bangkok. Thailand, New Delhi. India. Peshawar and Rawalpindi. Pakistan. Then probably he will go to Athens, and Rome before returning home. His mission to Asia was given critically fresh significance by United States efforts to bolster the regime of President Ngo Dinh Diem in South Vietnam, U.P.I said. The Vice-President was said to be taking the latest United States aid proposals to Saigon. \
