PLEBISCITE ON SAMOA
25 Of 47 Vote In N.Z.
(NZ Press Association; WELLINGTON, May 9. Of 47 Samoans at present in New ’ Zealand who were entitled to take part in today’s plebiscite on independence for Western Samoa, only 25 cast votes. But there were inquiries from many more who were not eligible to vote through having left Samoa before the special roll opened in February Polling booths were in Wellington and Auckland with none in the South Island and votes were required to be registered in oerson. One man was reported to have made a special trip from Whangarei to vote at the polling booth in the Auckland district office of the Department of Island Territories. Of the 25 votes
19 were registered in Auckland and six in Wellington. Voting in Western Samoa (on the other side of the international dateline to New Zealand) closes at 6 p.m. tomorrow and final results are expected to reach New Zealand on Thursday morning.
