Qualifiers Led By Mrs P. August th Z Press Association) ' WHAKATANE. May 8. The 1960 champion. Mrs P. August (Napier) led the 16 players who qualified today on the opening day of the New Zealand Maori women’s goli championships at Whakatane. Playing to her handicap of four. Four fortner champions are also among the qualifiers. The men will start their qualifying rounds tomorrow. The champion. T. Ormsby, and W. J. Godfrey are again expected (o contest the final. The title has been won twice by Ormsby. In an exhibition match yesterday. Godfrey returned a score of 68. two strokes better than the standard scratch score for the picturesque Whakatane course. Ormsby scored 74.
