SHORTAGE OF LABOUR
Council To Pav 10s A Day Dirt Money
The Paparua Countv Council will pay 10s a day dirt money to rubbish collectors. to attract labour. The county engineer (Mr A. Dyhrberg) said at a meeting of the council last evening that he was having greater and greater difficulty in keepirtg the council’s labouring staff at necessarv strength.
Small jobs normally done by staff were now handed to contractors where possible, but it was inevitable that much work remained undone.
The extra dirt money might not solve the problem, but it might help, he said.
