Athletics 100-YARD SPRINT

World Record Equalled

The world 100-yard record was equalled today by a Villanova University student. F. Budd, competing in a university triangular tournament at Villanova. Budd was timed at 9.2 sec on two of the four official clocks. 9.3 sec on one, and 9.4 sec on the other. Budd, who finished fifth in the 100 metre run at the Rome Olympics, was running the 100-yard race for the first time.

Ten minutes later, the 20-year-old student competed in the 220-yard run and won with a time of 20.2, only twotenths of a second off the world record.
