PRICE INDEX FIGURES
All-Food Group Falls Prets Association/ WELLINGTON, May 7. Between March and April. 1961. the all food group of the consumer price index fell by one point, says the Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker) in a supplied statement today. The decrease recorded in the all food index had resulted from a downward movement of three points by the fruits, vegetables and eggs sub-index, partially offset by upward movements contributing three-quarter points each by the meat and fish, and other foods subindexes. Egg prices which remained stable when the normal seasonal movement in April was upward and a slight fall in potato prices, partially offset by a price increase for tinned peas, contributed to the decrease in the fruits, vegetables and eggs subindex.
The upward movement in the meat and fish sub-index was caused mainly by higher mutton prices. An increase in price for a three-course meal in one of the index towms was the main contribution to the increase in the other foods sub-index.
