INJURED RUGBY PLAYER
Wife Kept Out Of Dressing Room
When the Marist second five-eighths, J. M. Collier, was being treated for a suspected broken cheek bone in a dressing room under No. 1 stand at Lancaster Park on Saturday his wife was not allowed to see him. Collier was knocked out in the match against Merivale and he was assisted from the field to the dressing room where he was attended by Dr. T. Anderson. Collier's wife came to the entrance of the players’ tunnel, and was asked in by Mr K. F. Meates. the Marist coach. The Lancaster Park groundsman (Mr C. Barnes) refused to allow Mrs Collier to see her husband, however, and she had to wait outside the stand, where Mr Meates later informed her of her husband’s condition.
Mr Meates said that he appreciated the difficulty of women going into dressing rooms, but it would be preferable if provision were made for close relatives, especially wives, to see injured players as quickly as possible in first-aid rooms These conditions applied at Rugby Park, he said. Collier underwent an operation at Burwood Hospital yesterday morning. His condition was reported as being quite good.
