LABOUR PARTY AND F.O.L.
Federation Seeking Equality
(H Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 5. The Federation of Labour wants to be treated as an equal by the Labour Party. The F.O.L. president (Mr F. P. Walsh), said that the lederation’s conference today decided to co-operate with the Labour Party in steps taken to protect the workers, provided federation representatives were treated as equals. Mr Walsh said the conference carried a resolution requesting the Labour Party to grant permission to “my humble self” to address next week's party conference on the economy of the country and compulsory unionism. The conference also endorsed remits calling for heavier penalties for employers who are convicted of breaches of awards, especially under-payment of wages. The conference also called for an amendment to the electoral laws to allow polling to be held mid-week, opposed any attempt to extend the term of the present Parliament beyond three years, asked that jurors to be paid for a normal working day and also referred two remits to the Labour Party one asking for the penalty for kidnapping to be life imprisonment and the other asking for State aid for sport.
