FIVE-DAY VISIT TO PICTON

Boys Of Cathedral Grammar School

Twenty-eight boys from standards four and five of the Cathedral Grammar School will leave on Monday for a five-day visit to Picton, as an extension of their school social studies programme. They will be under the supervision of their teacher, Mr F. W. Penberthy, and Mrs Penberthy. At Picton the party will visit the Tory Channel whaling station, and will make trips to the freezing works, the boat building sheds, the fish freezing works, and the reservoir. They hope to talk to officials at the post office, the fire station, the police station, and to local farmers. The boys will stay at the Picton Borough School, where they will sleep in sleeping bags. They will do their own domestic chores and assist Mrs Penberthy with the cooking. The party will return to Christchurch on May 12.
