WON HOLIDAY IN SYDNEY
Villa Maria Pupil’s Success
Fifteen - year - old Mary Ryan, of Tai Tapu. left New Zealand last evening on a special trip to Australia. She won an essav competition sponsored by Tasman Empire Airwavs. Ltd., the Atlantic and Pacific Travel Service, and the D.I.C. Her prize is eight days’ holiday in Sydney. The prize allowed her to take a parent or guardian, so she chose her mother, and her father went with them. They will extend their travels to include Melbourne and Brisbane, and will be away almost three weeks. Mrs Ryan has a friend in Australia whom she will visit, and the family has been given a list of other persons to “look up.” Mary, who is in the fifth form at Villa Maria College, won her prize for an essay entitled “The Past, Present, and Future of T.E.A.L. in the South Pacific.” Her hobbies include sewing and sport (basketball, tennis, and swimming), and she loves outdoor activities. Asked how she felt about her trip yesterday, she replied: "Great!”
