Final Of F.A. Cup Today
Hotspur and Leicester City will take the field at Wembley today to contest the final of the Football Association Cup. Neither side has had an easy passage to the final. Leicester survived a drawn match in the fifth round with Birmingham City, a drawn match in the quarter-finals with Third Division Barnsley and two draws in the semi-final
with Second Division Sheffield United. Tottenham drew its quarter-final match with Second Division Sunderland before winning the replay. Teams from the lesser divisions have provided many upsets in this year's F.A. Cup. The First Division teams, 22 of them, entered the competition in the third round, and no less than 10
of them were immediately eliminated —three by others from the same division and seven by teams from lower divisions. The sensation was the 2-1 defeat of Chelsea by Fourth Division’s Crewe Alexandra. In its progress to the semi-finals Second Division Sheffield United eliminated three First Division sides, Everton. Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle
United. The unluckiest team of the Competition must be Manchester City, the respected First Division side. Playing Second Division Luton Town, the match was abandoned after 69min because of weather. In that time City’s Denis Law had rammed home six goals to give his side a 6-2 lead. Luton Town won the replay 3-1.
