DISCOVERY OF OLD SHOTGUN
No Connexion VHth Murder
(N Z Press Association) WHANGAREI. May 3. A rusty, pitted doublebarrelled shotgun found in a swamp was this morning considered as possibly having a connexion with a 25-year-old unsolved murder in Northland.
But the possibility was discounted today by Police Superintendent F. Hayhurst The barrels of the gun were found by a boy a short distance from the home of Ernest Severin Nelson, aged 55. who was murdered near Okaihau in June. 1936. His body was found on June 9, 1936. bearing shotgun pellet wounds. Inqniries have been made by the police to establish whether er not there is any connexion between the old shotgun found, and the unsolved murder mystery. Superintendent Hayhurst said today that there was no evidence to connect the gun with the murder. "At the time of the murder. al! guns in the vicinity were confiscated, and any one of those could have been
the one used.” he said. The remains of the shotgun found could be anything from 10 to 40 years old. he said.
