Top-Ranking Cuban Exile

The Cuban Government has signalled the apparent final defeat of the invasion two weeks ago by announcing the capture of the civilian leader of the expeditionary force. The leader, Manuel Artime, was reported to have been captured in the swamps of Zapata Peninsula. Artime, a member of the seven-man Cuban exile Revolutionary Council, was the highest-ranking prisoner taken by Dr. Castro's Army and militia, which captured about 1000 of the invaders in the three-day battle' that ended on April 19. At the same time. Cuban.' learned of Dr. Castro’s plan to send 1000 youths to the Soviet Union to study agriculture and to bring in 30C more Soviet technicians t< help li»s Government’s industrial development programme.
