ELECTION IN HURUNUI
Mr A. A. Adcock For Labour
Mr A. A. Adcock will probably be the Labour Party's candidate at the Hurunui byelection on June 10. He stood for Labour at the General Election last November. when he was beaten by Mr W. H. Gillespie, whose death has caused the byelection. by more than 2000 votes. Mr Adcock, who is 33 and a railway employee, is a member of the Waimairi County Council. For the selection, the president of the Labour Party (Dr A. M. Finlay), the national secretary (Mr A. McDonald) and the Canterbury area representative (Mr N. E. Kirk. MP.) will act with three local party representatives. No nominations have yet been made for the National Party candidate, but several farmers will seek the nomination. One who has been approached to allow his name to go forward, but who has declined for family reasons, is Mr A. Burke, of Amberley, who has been chairman of the Hurunui electorate committee of the party for the last 17 years
