Tennis UMPIRE WALKS OFF

Incident During Otway Game

(N.Z.P-A.-Reuter— Copyright) LONDON. May 4. An umpire, Mr Mark Taylor. walked off during a match between M. Otway (New Zealand) and L. Coni (Surrey) at the London hardcourt tennis championships at Hurlingham Club today. Both Otway, who won the third-round match, 3-6. 6-3. 7-5, and Corai had complained to Taylor about his decisions. Taylor said later that conditions were bad for umpiring and he was “cold and fedup with the bickering.” The incident occurred at the end of the second set. and the match was completed w»th a new umpire. Farce Otway said after winning: “The match had developed into a complete farce. In one game I hit two balls over the baseline and one into the sideline and not one was called out. “Laurie and I are ’cobbers.’ We do not want to cheat each other. We just want to be left alone, and have a good game.” Coni said the umpire’s de-

visions did not allow them to concentrate upon the match Another New Zealander J. R. McDonald, also had a win in the third round, decisively beating W. E. Northcott (Cornwall), 6-1, 6-1.
