50,000 BIBLES TO INDONESIA
N.Z. Society’s Help
As a result of an urgent request for financial help received earlier this year by the British and Foreign Bible Society from the society’s headquarters in London, a quota of 50,000 Indonesian Bibles has been sent to Indonesia under the Dominion’s present export licence. Although the Bibles had been printed, published and dispatched by the Netherlands Bible Society in Amsterdam it had not been possible for them to be forwarded under the Dutch export quota because of the present strained relationships between the two countries, said the organising secretary of the New’ Zealand society's local branch (Miss J. W. Ireland) in Christchurch yester-' day. The cost of the Bibles, valued at approximately 8s a copy, was nearly £2OOO The quota mentioned is not included in the 200.000 volumes of scriptures already promised by New’ Zealand to Indonesia for the coming year.
