Poor Opposition For Tulloch At Adelaide
(from th* Australian correspondent of "The Press'!
SYDNEY. Tulloch did it on Saturday and without any difficulty too, because the opposition he met in the special race in Adelaide to give him the chance to pass the £lOO,OOO mark in stake winnings was very poor indeed. The tally stands at £100.351! lbs, and from all accounts the champion will be kept in training tor races in Brisbane, among them the Brisbane Cup, run over two miles. Excluding his early events Tulloch has won only two handicaps in his career one of them the Caulfield Cup. It now looks as if he is going to be an "exhibition" horse, with racing clubs holding out bait to tempt the stable to start him and draw the crowds. Adelaide got a near record crowd of 30,000 on Saturday, which well repaid them for the extra stake money they put up for the S. J. Pullman Select Stake* which brought Tulloch to Adelaide for the first and. no doubt, only time No horse in the British Commonwealth has won as much money in his own land. England's greatest winner was Ballymoss, which won £107.000. but £40.000 of this was won in France. Sailor's Guide Australia has bred one of the biggest winners. Sailor's Guide, whose tally is approximately £134 000. But of this. £60,000 Was won in the United States or in Canada. When the trainer Cecil Ryan bought Revel Vietorv in New Zealand a couple of months ago he gpt a bargain. New Zealanders will know the gelding as Astounding, but in Australia a change in name
was necessary because there Is already a horse named Astounding. Revel Victory bad his second start on Saturday, and won the Welter Handicap at RosehiH in very good style, beating Man of Iron and Che Sara. Revel Victory is bv Revelation from Victory Bridge, and he is likely to be found among those contesting the Doomben Cup tn Brisbane tn July. Saturday's race was run over seven furlongs and a half, but although many thought a longer race would be better for the ge,ding. Revel Victory led almost from start to finish. Coonamble Another New Zealand-bred horse at the meeting was Coonamble, which won the mile and a quarter Novice Handicap wl ‘n a long sustained run. coonambie is by Blueskin II - a l. ka ' an . d now ‘bat the distance has been found be is likely to go on hi much better comm ??J, tat eresHng winner at Rosehill was Rush Bye.
