GAS WORKERS’ DISPUTE

After a proposed stopwork meeting was cancelled and the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr S W Armstrong) called the parties together in conference last week, further negotiations took place which resulted in a settlement of a dispute at the Christchurch Gas Company’s works. The union had accused the company of unfair treatment in transferring the union president from the outside staff to inside employment Mr Armstrong said yesterday that much misunderstanding had been clarified and the company was making some minor adjustments to the union president's terms of employment on his new inside work.
