CHIROPRACTORS ACT
No Decision Yet On Amendment
(N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 4. The Government caucus committee on the Chiropractors’ Act, under the chairmanship of Mr G. F. Sim. MP., met today but it made no recommendation on the act The Chiropractors’ Act was passed last October in the last stages of the session. Unless the act is modified early next session, the Government will be faced with the obligation to set up the Chiropractors' Board, as required by the act, so that practitioners can register. The aim of the measure was to ensure that only qualified chiropractors were able to offer their services to the public, but during the hearings before the Public Health Committee in the last session of Parliament, it became apparent that there were wide differences of opinion among members of the profession as to the measure to be used to assess the qualifications for registration. As the law stands, it will be illegal for unregistered chiropractors to practise after July 1.
