Rusk Seeks Support

May 4 The United States Secre- ■ tary of State (Mr Dean Rusk) called on American businessmen last night to support President Kennedy’s foreign aid programme as “a matter of life and death for freedom itself." I In a speech before a dinjner meeting of the United I States Chamber of ComI merce, Mr Rusk said the I Soviet bloc was using its i own aid programmes to advance its ideology in every continent. "Foreign aid would be impelling were there no S.noSoviet bloc. But the bloc is there and what would be impelling becomes a matter of life and death for freedom itself.” he said. Mr Rusk said foreign aid had more solemn purposes than merely fighting the cold war. “The primary task of policy is to support our purposes and build a decent world order by peaceful means if possible.” he said. President Kennedy has arranged to meet 11 top corporation officials today to discuss foreign aid
