“JIM” PERPLEXED BY N.Z.’S LIQUOR LAWS

AUCKLAND, May 3. The English comedian Jimmy Edwards left for the United States by air tonight on his way home to Britain shaking his head over New Zealand's licensing laws. “I am not giving Pa Glum's opinion now. but my own.” he said. “I am completely baffled by this early morning opening you have. “Who in the world wants to start drinking at 9 o’clock in the morning? It is at night when the day’s work is done and you feel like relaxing that you need a drink or two.”
Mr Edwards said that he and his wife had particularly
enjoyed a splendid week of relaxation. “I can claim to have done the lot—huntin’, shootin’ and fishin’,” he said. “I rode with three different bunts, I also shot some deer and a few pigs and I caught some fish. What more could a fella want?” As a motorist, the comedian confessed that he was baffled about sign-posting throughout the country It was all right when you were out in the country but it was extremely difficult to find your way out of Auckland by following “illuminated advertising signs.” Large signposts with numerals for the highways were the answer, he thought
