St. Mary’s Old Girls
“The bells of St. Mary’s" was the tune to which 38 former pupils of St. Mary’s College made their curtsy to the Right Rev. Monsignor J. A. Kennedy at the Winter Garden last evening. They were presented by the president of the Old Girls’ Association (Mrs J. Husband) and were specially trained for the occasion by Miss E. Cornyns Thomas. The debutantes, who carried posies presented by the Rev. Mother and the sisters at the convent, were:—Misses Margery Lindsay. Bronwyn Neil, Margaret McShane, Rosaline Fullen, Patricia Petersen, Pamela Johnston, Anne Haughey, Susan O’Neil, Christine Lancaster, Patricia Maguire, Jean McConnell, Lorraine Treacy, Anne Thom. Noeline Morel, Kathryn Maguire, Leonara Sunley, Diane Tyro, Lorraine Murray. Judith Clarke. Marie O’Brien. Elaine Kirkpatrick, Anne Marie Ryan. Anite van Tulder. Erin Pablecheque, Veronica Clark. Lorraine Loader, Judith Summerfield. Patricia Warren. Catherine Crowe. Patricia Donnelly, Margaret Thiele, Josephine Morley, Kathryn Walker, Susan O’Neill. Catherine Gorman, Janette Thompson. Rae Horgan. Janet Maguire. Specially-invited guests included the Right Rev. Monsignori J. A. Kennedy and T. Hanrahan, the Rev. Father C Crocker, the Very Rev. Father G. Kane, the Rev. Fathers B. J. O’Brien and K. O’Connor, clergy representing the city parishes. Miss E. Comvns Thomas, Mr and Mrs J Mercer (St. Mary’s College Parent-Teacher Association', Mr and Mrs F Friel (St. Mary’s Parish School Parent-Teacher Association), and representatives from the following kindred associations:—Villa Maria, Sacred Heart. Dominican Convent, St. Margaret’s. Rangi-ruru. Christchurch West High, Avonside, St. Bede’s, St. Patrick’s (Sil verstream), Xavier College and St. Kevin's College. Mrs J. Husband received the guests wearing a gown of emerald green delus’red satin featuring a fan-shaped pleated bodice and full skirt. Two matching roses trimmed the back of the waistline and the matching stole was also trimmed with small rosettes of the material. A gown of turquoise brocade was chosen by Mrs I Benning’on. the vice-presi-dent of the association. It bad a wide V-neckline and full skirt, and with it she wore a matching stole trimmed with white fur. Mrs R. Adamson secretary of the association, wort a sheath frock in red delustred satin with a ma’ching jacket revealing a slashed bow of the same material The supper tables were decorated in blue and white flowers (the school colours), and flowers in autumn tonings decorated the official alcove and foyer.
