Napier Firm’s Plans
(NX Press Association) NAPIER. May 3. An application for licences to import Japanese trucks for assembly in Napier has been made by the Napier firm of Auto Industries, Ltd., Onekawa. The firm's manager (Mr B. Steiner) said today the company was prepared to ereet an assembly plant in Napier and establish the industry in the city. He said his firm was in regular contact with the Isuzu Motor Company, Ltd., of Tokyo, and negotiations had been completed for the assembly of the Japanese company’s trucks if an import licence was granted. Mr Steiner said it was proposed that two vehicles a day would be produced at first It was proposed to use New Zealand-made batteries, tyres, glass and other products in the vehicles. "We are considering the question of assembling Japanese cars as well as trucks,” he said.
