WALKIE-TALKIE RADIOS
New Frequency Channel Users of walkie-talkie type radios will find it easier to use such sets with the allocation by the Post Office of a more suitable operating frequency, says an article in the New Zealand Electrical Journal, the official journal of the Electrical Supply Authority Engineers’ Institute. Originally these sets were specified for operation on ultra-high frequencies only, but now another channel has been made available for their use. The new channel will give improved coverage and allow manufacturers of walkie-talkie radios more scope to produce sets, says the article. Walkie-talkie type stations are known internationally as citizens’ stations. No special operator’s certificate is required for their use. Any British subject aged 16 or more can operate a walkietalkie after paying an annual licence fee of £l.
