U.S. Policy

Sir, —The mantle of a peace-loving nation, that America has worn for so long, lies in shreds today as reports of American actions and interventions are becoming known, first in Laos, then Cuba, and now Algiers How many other international problems have been created by this nation we may never know. This country is tied militarily to America by both the A.N.Z.U.S. and S.E.A.T.O. Pacts. Surely now that the

truth is known we should withdraw from pacts with a nation that is blundering on to war. Why should out youth be sacrificed because of the whims of American power-crazed politicians? Small wonder that the British object to American submarines being based in Britain. The American economic position, with 6.000,000 unemployed is, no doubt, the reason for her actions, as war is a means of solving this recession.—Yours, etc., JOHN FORSTER. May 2, 1961.
