COACH FROM SCOTLAND

Canterbury To Write The Canterbury Football Association will write to the Scottish international player Tommy Younger to find out whether he is still interested in coining to New Zealand to coach. This was decided at a meeting of the management committee of the association last evening, and is an outcome of a request from Younger considered several weeks ago.

Mr W. W. Carruthers told the meeting that he had received information that Younger was now involved in recruiting players in England to play in the newlyformed professional League in Canada; in the English offseason.

Several prominent British footballers, including Stanley Matthews, Johnny Haynes, and Danny Blanchflower, had already been signed to play for the Toronto City side in this competition, said Mr Carruthers. His information was that Younger had been engaged as manager-coach for this team, and would probably no longer be interested in following up his previous inquiry about the prospects of obtaining a coaching position in New Zealand.

. The meeting received, from the New Zealand Football Association, a copy of Younger’s original letter. In this he outlined his professional experience with the Hibernian Club in Scotland and the Liverpool Club in England. He has captained Scotland, and has won 31 international caps. Younger is 41. “I have considerable experience as I was coaching in schools and youth clubs over the last 10 years, and until recently I was player-man-ager-coach to the Falkirk Club in Scotland,’’ said Younger in his letter. The Canterbury association will pursue its hopes of obtaining Younger’s services as a South Island coach. Two other centres had also expressed their intention to write to Younger, said the New Zealand association.
