ROADS BOARD SPENDING

Level Dismays Farmers (N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 2. Regret that the National Roads Board would this financial year spend at a record level was expressed by the research officer of Federated Farmers. Mr J. G. Pryde. in Hawera today. Addressing the annual conference of South Taranaki Federated Farmers he said that in view of current economic prospects such high spending was not desirable. What was disturbing was that to achieve this record expenditure the board would not only spend all its total current receipts: but it would also have to dip into its reserves. He said he had no doubt the board had its reasons for pursuing this policy, but there were, at present, Cogent economic reasons why it should keep within its current income and thereby set an example to Government and local authorities.
