Disapproval Of Department fIV.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 2. “Segregation of post-prim-ary schools, such as the Maori girls’ college, is not approved by the Department of Maori Affairs," said the department’s secretary (Mr K. Hunn) addressing professional women in Wellington last night. "Although these schools ai-e a legacy we have inherited, Maori leaders agree they are wrong,” said Mr Hunn. “At this age when young ; people are beginning to learn about segregation and to understand what it really means it is far better that they be mixed.” Even the traditional Maori schools were beginning to open their doors, and it was pleasing to see an increasing number of Europeans attending them.
