SMITH AND BROWN

Take-over Of P.N. Store (N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON N., May 2. The directors of Garners Departmental Stores, Ltd., Palmerston North, announced today that their business had been purchased by the Auckland retail company of Smith and Brown Holdings, Ltd. The purchase has been effected partly by the issue of shares, and partly by cash.

The Smith and Brown directors state that it is their intention to carry on the Palmerston North business with the present staff, and under the name of Garners. The managing director of Garners, Mr K. M. Garner, will remain a director of Garners Departmental Stores.
