CONTRACT MAIL DELIVERIES

Belfast. Halswell Districts

Postal deliveries in the Belfast and Halswell districts are now made by “contract” oostmen. These are the first town areas in the Christchurch Post Office district to have such a .service. The contracts w-ere let under much the same conditions as for rural mail deliveries. The contractors—two in Belfast and one In Halswell—travel in vehicles which they themselves provide. The Belfast contractors went “out on their own” last week after a fortnight's help by the Post Office; the Halswell contractor has been working for a little longer. The postmen formerly on the Belfast and Halswell rounds have been absorbed into the general work of the postmen’s branch in the city.
