Mr Robertson To Retire

Mr G. H. Robertson, who has been headmaster of Ham School for more than five years, is to retire on Friday. Mr Robertson has been teaching for 44 years and four months.

Mr Robertson was educated at Timaru School. Timaru High School, and Christchurch Boys’ High School. He attended the Teachers’ Training College, and spent some time at the Timaru Main School as a pupil teacher.

Mr Robertson taught for a year at Waimairi School and was then transferred to Addington School, where he spent 10 months. He taught for four years and a half at Woolston School, and then taught at West Christchurch School, which was then an associate normal school. After spending five years and a half at West Christchurch. Mr Robertson went to St. Albans School for four years. He spent two years and seven months at Heathcote School, and was transferred to Wharenui School, where he taught for two years and 10 months as first assistant. For four years Mr Robertson was headmaster of Sefton School, before being transferred to Dunedin where he was in charge of Arthur's Street School for three 'years and five months, and in charge of Mornington School for more than six years.

He then returned to Christchurch where he became headmaster at Ham School. Mr Robertson is a keen sportsman, and played firstgrade cricket and football. In 1923 he was selected as a member of the New Zealand Universities’ football team to tour Australia. He played senior cricket for Riccarton and for the University of Canterbury.
