ANIMAL LOVER “RETIRING”
Mrs M. ChristmasHaney One of Christchurch's wellknown figures in animal welfare work, Mrs Mabel Christ-mas-Harvey. said last evening she planned to retire from animal welfare activities. Mrs Christmas-Harvey told the annual meeting of the New Zealand Dog Owners' Defence League that she would “take a back seat from now on because she was 76 —77 soon.” Mrs Christmas-Harvey came to New Zealand in 1927 after gaining a diploma at the Canine Nurses' Institute in London. She was the first woman in New Zealand with this qualification. She said she had worked most of her life in the interests of animals, treating everything from elephants to white mice.
