Government’s Plans (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 1. Although the government had no plans to send a Minister or officials to Washing, ton to gain further information about New Zealand’s application for membership of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, such visits could not be ruled out, said the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) at his press conference tonight. "We are applying because it is the only way in which we can get information about the advantages of joining,” said Mr Holyoake. “We will then take the matter to Parliament and then make up our minds,” he said. The arrangements for a loan in London in the middle of the year still stood, said the Prime Minister, and if New Zealand joined the Fund and Bank there would still be alternative and supplementary sources of borrowing.
“If it is possible to borrow on better terms somewhere else, we would do so. If the conditions are obnoxious, you don’t have to accept a loan on those conditions,” said the Prime Minister.
