CAR IMPORTS MAY INCREASE

Result Of Licence Extension

The number of new cars imported into New Zealand under no-remittance licences may increase by about 1000 as a result of the Government’s extension of the scheme, according to the views of motor traders in Christchurch. The managing director of Amuri Motors. Ltd. (Mr S. C. Cordner) said the extension would be welcomed by the trade and would give some relief to the shortage of new cars.

In the 1959-60 period, imports of cars totalled 34,000. It i« estimated that about 3000 of these were brought in on no-remittance licences.
