Won After Fainting
R. N. Marsh, who rode Mighty Smart to victory in the Okuku Hack Handicap, last race at Riccarton on Saturday, was lucky to be riding in the event. Earlier in the day Marsh collapsed and tumbled from Drake's Treasure just after passing the winning post ifi the second race, the First Ashley Maiden Handicap. Drake's Treasure finished six’h in a field of 19. and Marsh was lucky to escape injury. One runner, Neptune’s Last, did stumble over Drake's Treasure, but his rider C. N. McGuire, was not injured. Marsh was passed as fit to ride again later in the day only after an examination by the club's doctor. He said after returning to the jockey's room that he had been wasting hard, and had come over in a faint. Marsh had three rides later in the day. He finished fifth in the President's Handicap, the first leg of the double, on Omaha, third in the Inglewood Hack Handicap on Gay Fox, and first on Mighty Smart. He rode Mighty Smart at 7-10 L
