C.O.R.S.O. APPEAL
£4177 From Half Of City Although returns had been made from only 35 of the 80 areas in Christchurch, £4177 had been collected for C.0.R.5.0.. said the organiser of the appeal (Mr G. H. Coley) last evening. He said the total would probably not be known for another three to four days. It was impossible to estimate what the total would be, as postal donations were coming in all the time, he said. The collection was made on Saturday in North and MidCanterbury, the West Coast and Marlborough. Returns from some of the towns outside Christchurch were: Ashburton £763, Rangiora £351, Kaiapoi £207, Rakaia £139, Leeston £ll5. Akaroa £52, Blenheim £935, Picton £177, Westport £192, Greymouth £435, Hokitika £240, Reef ton £64. Returns from other centres such as Kaikoura. Methven and Ross have yet to be made. Mr Coley said most of the totals collected were higher than last year and the committee was encouraged by the response. “There will probably be a 10 to 15 per cent, increase in the Christchurch collections." he said. “Because of a misunderstanding, the collection in the Hills road-Shirley area will be made next Saturday.” he said Any other collections missed should be sent to the C.O.R.S O. office, 94 Gloucester street, Christchurch, he said.
