RACING CAR PAINTINGS

Christchurch Man’s Work A Christchurch artist, Mr G. Sutton, who specialises in oil paintings of racing cars, hopes to have two of his paintings hung in the Steering Wheel Club, in London. Mr Sutton said last evening that two of his paintings, those of Stirling Moss and Jack Brabham driving their cars in the Lady Wigram Trophy race of 1961, were to be sent to London, and arrangements were under way to have them displayed in the club. Mr Sutton said that the Steering Wheel Club was a meeting place for those who took an active interest m motor racing. Two British artists who specialised in motor racing scenes regularly had their works shown there. At present Mr Sutton has five of his paintings displayed in a city retail firm. Three of the paintings are of racing cars and two are of aircraft. The car paintings show Moss driving a Lotus in the Lady Wigram Trophy race, Brabham driving a Cooper Climax and Arthur Kennard driving a Healey Corvette. The planes are a Viscount and a Globemaster.
