Hillary’s Book Attacked

(N2 Pnss Asm.—Copyright) LONDON. April 27. Sir Edmund Hillary was sharply criticised by the “Daily Mirror” today about his book “No Latitude for Error.’' The newspaper said he was “niggling, carping and ungenerous,” about Sir Vivian Fuchs during the Commonwealth trans-Antarctic expedition. It added: “On his journey Fuchs was delayed by atrociously bad ground. But listen to Hillary.” It then quoted Sir Edmund Hillary as writing: “Although it was difficult for us to judge the magnitude of the problems Bunny (Sir Vivian Fuchs) might be meeting, yet it was equally hard for us to shake off the conviction that the crossing party was not motivated by any particular sense of urgency.”

Sir Edmund Hillary later wrote-. “. , . individually I knew they were a fine group of mot, but we felt they still lacked that spark which would transform them into a powerful and thrusting team.”
