PENALTY KICKS
A further refinement to Rugby’s laws will be brought into effect today, with a change in the rules governing the taking of penalty kicks.
As from today, a man taking a penalty kick may play the ball himself, providing it has gone 10 yards in any direction, or over the goalline, whichever is the shorter distance. This change was confirmed at the recent meeting of the laws committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, and advice of it was received by the Canterbury referees’ association this week.
