PUBLIC SPEAKING CONTEST
Timaru Pupil Wins Canterbury Final A pupil of the Timaru Boys’ High School. D. J. Farr, won the Canterbury divisional final of the secondary schools' public speaking contest held on Thursday evening by the Canterbury branch of the National Safety Association. The subject for the contest was “Accident Prevention— A-Moral Obligation.” Farr will go to Wellington for the Dominion final on May 17. Two girls were placed first equal in the Christchurch section of the contest—V. Livingstone (St. Margaret’s College), and J. Edwards (Christchurch Girls’ High School). The West Coast section was won by J. Macduff (Greymouth Technical High School). The judges were Messrs B A. Mair, J. K. Dobson, and K. A. Gough. They were impressed with the standard of the speeches.
