CUSTOMS RETURNS

Sales Tax Drops Sales tax collected in Christchurch by the Customs Department in April was £64.625 less than the figure for April, 1960. Petrol tax increased by £40,259 over last year’s figure, but the total for April, 1961. decreased by £13.287 compared with last April’s figure. The comparative totals are £749,629 (£762.916). WELLINGTON Revenue collected by the Customs Department in Wellington during April totalled £1.979.252 compared with £2,597,113 in April last year. Details are:— Customs. £998.509 (£932.927 last year); sales tax. £552,324 (£1.274.983): petrol tax. £238.786 (£219.318). DUNEDIN Customs returns for goods passing through the port of Otago during April are:— Customs. £ 170,248 ( £ 189.231 last year); sales tax. £41.377 (£59.644); tyres. £44 (£212); petrol. £90,449 (£80.727); miscellaneous. £108,056 (£117,727); total. £410.134 (£447.541), N. King Balance Date Postponed (NZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON. April 27. Newton King, Ltd., advises that, following its share exchange with Gisborne Sheepfarmers Mercantile Company, Ltd., the balance date has been postponed to June 30. As at that date, consolidated accounts will be issued for the group which now includes six companies. These consolidated accounts will be issued about midOctober and the annual meeting held in late October or early November.
