Company News C.S.R.—FIJI PARTNERSHIP
“In Jeopardy” Says Chairman (N.Z. Press Associatom) AUCKLAND. April 27. The partnership of- Colonial Sugar Refining Co., Ltd., and the people of Fiji is in jeopardy. the C.SJt. chairman of directors (Mr J. W. Dunlop) said today. Mr Dunlop flew in from Australia with the general manager (Dr. J. Vernon) tor the official opening of the company’s nine-storey building in Fort street by the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Marshall). Speaking at -the ceremony. Mr Dunlop said: “If both parties of * partnership do not benefit, the partnership is jeopardised. “In Fiji at present we have an example where C.S.R., representing predominantly Australian and New Zealand investors, is in a form of partnership with the Fiji sugar industry. "The Fiji people and economy derive considerable and fundamental benefits from that.partnership. But C.S.R.’s Australian and New Zealand shareholders have recently been quite inadequately rewarded. “This is a situation in which both parties are not benefiting. and, therefore, it must be improved.”
