U.S. BASES IN BRITAIN

Macmillan Refuses To Seek Removal (N.Z-P-A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. April 28. The Prime Minister (Mr Macmillan) refused a suggestion in the House of Commons yesterday that he should ask President Kennedy to withdraw American bases from British territory. A Labour member, Mr Sydney Silverman, had urged him to discuss this personally with the President “in view of the danger of the United States becoming involoved in hostilities as a result of activities of which Great Britain does not approve." Mr Macmillan replied: "No. The base facilities which we have granted the Americans serve the common defence."
