The influential French newspaper “Le Monde.” said today that American agents had apparently more or less encouraged General Challe. the reputed leader of the abortive four-day insurrection in Algeria. “Le Monde” said: “It aooears established that some American agents more or less encouraged Maurice Challe. whose experience in N ATO should have been able to put him on guard against the dealings of these irresponSibles and their Spanish and German confreres. "Mr Kennedy obviously had nothing to do with this affair. T« make this plain, he considered it necessary to offer aid to General de Gaulle—-well-intentioned. certainly, but inopportune.” the paper said.
