TOWN HALL SITE
Decision Next Month A decision on the site of the town hall for Christchurch would be made at the next meeting of the city council on May 17, the chairman of the town hall committee (Cr. H. P. Smith) said yesterday. He was commenting on the complaint of Town Hall Promotion about the council's laek of progress in obtaining a site.
After the decision of the Town and Country Planning Appeal Board on the zoning of the Canterbury Club site, the council made another approach to the club to see whether it would reopen negotiations for the purchase of its land and buildings. With a reply received, but undisclosed, the town hall committee would be able to make a recommendation to the council meeting, Cr. Smith said.
