ALTERATIONS TO LIQUOR BOOTH
Department Ruling Opposed (N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE. April 27. It was absurd that the new eating - house regulations which came into force in February should applv to the liquor booth at the Gisborne showgrounds which was used on only a few days a year, said the chairman (Mr R. C. Parker) at a meeting of the Cook County Council today. "This country is coming to the stage, with petty regulations. when we won’t be able to do anything.” he said.
The council was told that the Health Department had served a requisition to the Poverty Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Association requiring certain improvements to the liquor booth at the showgrounds.
The association stated that the fees it received from the booth would not warrant the exnenditure.
The correspondence had been passed on to the council because it was now responsible for enforcing the new regulations. The council decided to confer with the department.
