Methven Shopping Area
Sir, —Hav.ng occasion to visit Methven, Mid-Canter- 1 bury, for the past nine years. I was surprised to see no improvement in the shopping area, which .is the junction of six roads. Surely the icounty can do something to rectify this death trap, especially for children crossing the roads. I would sug- ' igest compulsory stops or painted pedestrian crossings. ' ■ Road edict seems to be a thing of the past in that area.—Yours, etc., * STILL HOPING. April 25. 1961. [“The intersection referred to presents no hazards to any motorist or pedestrian exercising ordinary care, and the present normal volume of [ traffic does not warrant the ! installation of stop signs or pedestrian crossings," said the engineer of the Ashburton County Council (Mr R. L. I Lindsay) .1
