RETIRING TEACHER
Miss R. D. Hay Honoured The Prebbleton School Parent-Teacher Association and the school committee combined recently to honour Miss R. D. Hay, who retired from school teaching in February.
Miss Hay was educated at the West Christchurch Primary School and the Christchurch Girls’ High School. After graduating M.A. and Dip. Ed. from the Canterbury University College, she taught in the secondary departments of various district high schools until she was at-
tracted to infant teaching about 15 years ago. She taught at Wharenut, and for 12 years at Prebbleton School until her retirement. She is Dominion tcrasurer of the New Zealand Women Teachers' Association and has been treasurer and president of the North Canterbury branch of this association, and treasurer of the Papanui Community Centre and the Garden Club. She was a member of the Junior Red Cross Council until her retirement.
She has served as chairman of the Avon branch of the Toe H Association, and is the association’s representative on the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women. She is an executive member of the Pan-Pacific and South-east Asia Women’s Association, and attended the recent conference in Canberra as a delegate. In her retirement Miss Hay hopes to pursue her hobby of oil painting.
