AMERICAN SULKY

N.Z. D rivers’ “Headache” (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright.) NEW YORK. April 27. George Noble. who will drive the New Zealand mare Arania in the International Pacing Series at Yonkers Raceway next month, said last evening that the wide American sulky was ‘ something of a headache” to the visiting drivers. The American sulky was a good 18 inches wider than the sulkies used in New Zealand and Australia, be said, and there was also a considerable difference in design.

The Sydney driver Bert Alley, who will drive Apmat in the series, was set down for five nights for interfering with another runner on Tuesday night while driving Devon Goose for Billy Haughton, the American trainer of Caduceus.

The visiting drivers said American trotting men generally had a low opinion of driving in Australia and New Zealand.

Noble said the biggest problem for visiting horses from "down under” was the moving barrier start here.

Arania. Apmat and False Step, however, "seem to be handling the gate all right,” he said.
